Dr. Arshad Ali is a consultant anesthesiologist with 32 years of experience in the field of anesthesia. He has worked in multi-specialty tertiary hospitals in India and Bahrain and was working as Head of the Department of Anesthesia and Intensive care in MOHAP hospital, UAE before joining Prime hospital. He is especially interested in regional anesthesia and chronic pain and chronic pain management.

  • Highly experienced in anesthesia for all type of surgeries including, cardiac (open and closed cardiac procedures), thoracic (lung surgeries such as pneumonectomy), major vascular (including aortic surgeries), neuro (such as aneurysm clipping, neurotrauma, and neuro tumor surgeries ), pediatric surgeries, major orthopedic surgeries, plastic (cosmetic, burns and reconstructive surgeries), major ENT (including cochlear implants), organ transplant surgeries, gynaec, obstetric (including labor analgesia), urological surgeries, etc.
  • Highly experienced in all aspects of regional anesthesia. I do all types of regional anesthesia procedures from head to toe with or without ultrasound and all types of epidural and paravertebral anesthesia including labor epidural, cervical epidural for chronic pain, thoracic epidurals, epidural in pediatric patients and neonates, transforaminal epidural with fluoroscopic guidance, cervical paravertebral, thoracic paravertebral, lumbar paravertebral, sacral paravertebral, etc.
  • Experienced in all procedures related to chronic pain. I do the fluoroscopic guided conventional epidural, cervical epidural, transforaminal and caudal injections, facet joint injections, sacroiliac joint injections, intervertebral disc injections, etc. I also do all ultrasound-guided chronic pain procedures.
  • Highly experienced in all aspects of critical care and have been working as a consultant of critical care also for many years. I am well experienced in doing bedside transthoracic echo and transesophageal echo (as good as a cardiologist),  transcranial Doppler, ultrasound for DVT, FAST scans, lung ultrasound, vascular ultrasound, abdominal ultrasound, etc which I do on a regular basis in intensive care.. I am experienced in the use of fiber optic bronchoscopes for diagnostic purposes in ICU (with alveolar biopsy if needed and bronchoalveolar lavage), awake intubations, and thoracic anesthesia procedures. I do portacaths and permacaths also. I am an expert in percutaneous tracheostomy, intercostal drainage tube insertions, temporary pacemaker insertions, etc.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Completed MBBS from Stanley medical college, University of Madras, Chennai, India in May 1988. 
  • Did MD in Anesthesia from Banaras Hindu University, Uttar Pradesh, India from1991 to 1994. 
  • Passed the Diplomate of National Board of Examinations, New Delhi, India, in Anaesthesiology in December 1995. 
  • Specialized in cardiac, thoracic and neuro anesthesia from Sree Chitra tribunal institute, Kerala which is one of the three institutes of national importance in India.
  • Also completed the Arab Board of  Anesthesia and intensive care in 1999. 
  • Trained in chronic pain from Daradia Pain Clinic, Kolkata, India, which has been awarded 
  • Excellence in Pain Practice was awarded by the World Institute of Pain in 2010. 
  • Underwent training  at the pain center in AZ Nikolaas, Sint Niklaas, Belgium 
  • which is one of the largest pain centers in Europe.
  • Had been working as a consultant in the Dept of Anesthesia, Intensive care, and chronic pain at Salmania Medical Center, Bahrain for 17 years
  • Lastly working as a Senior Consultant and Head of Dept of Anesthesia and Intensive care for the past 4 years in Diba Hospital which belongs to the Ministry of Health, UAE.
